7 Of The Latest Developments In The CBD Vaping Industry

CBD and vaping separately are both industries that appear in the news quite frequently –the headlines run the gamut from legal concerns to medical studies and technological advances.

But when you combine the two together, the CBD vaping industry – it’s just too much to keep up with. We get it. That’s why we’ve been keeping up with all the latest developments and distilled them into one place for you.

We’ve brought 7 of the most important developments in the CBD vaping industry to keep you up-to-speed with the times. By the end of this short article, you’ll be the most informed person in your zip code.

  1. Recent Study Shows No Negative Health Effects From Vaping

In a landmark study published in the UK during November of 2017, a group of researchers followed a group of vapers and non-vapers to measure the long-term effects of vaping on your health.

The study period was 3.5 years, and the researchers measured:

  • Blood pressure
  • Heart rate
  • Body weight
  • Lung function
  • Respiratory symptoms
  • Exhaled breath nitric oxide
  • Exhaled carbon monoxide
  • High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) of the lungs

After the study, the researchers concluded that the vapers’ vitals and overall appearances of health were “indistinguishable” from those who did not vape at all during the study period.1

To put this in perspective, even a single cigarette would cause a person to show symptoms from these tests immediately.

Their blood pressure and heart rate would immediately rise, as well as affecting their exhaled carbon monoxide just minutes after smoking and the effects would last at least 12 hours.2

  1. Vaping Is Twice As Effective At Helping People Quit Smoking As NRT

For anyone who is looking to quit smoking using vaping CBD as an alternative, there’s good news.

A very recent study done under rigorous conditions by Professor Peter Hajek in London has shown that vaping leads to almost a double rate of successful quitting as compared to pharmaceutical nicotine replacement therapies.

After one year, 18 percent of the vaping group was abstinent from cigarettes — almost twice as many as those who used the pharmaceutical nicotine products (9.9 percent).3

The absence of smoking was determined with a carbon monoxide test which detects recent cigarette use.3

Considering that the success rate of people who try quitting on their own is only 3%, an 18% success rate is absurdly high and promises great things for people who are looking for alternatives.3

  1. Vaping Is Better For Your Smile

Despite the studies showing that vaping isn’t anywhere near as harmful as smoking and may even be completely safe – there will always be people debating that vaping hasn’t been around long enough to prove the effects (or lack thereof) over time.

But one thing is certain: vaping isn’t likely to make your teeth yellow!

A study recently published in the American Journal of Dentistry found that vaping causes little or no staining compared to cigarettes.4

Enamel blocks from cattle teeth were incubated with saliva for 14 days to allow a protective layer of a protein called “pellicle” to form on them, emulating real teeth.

Then they were exposed to the equivalent of one pack of cigarette smoke and vapor per day and periodically tested with a spectrometer by trained scientists in an independent laboratory.

The conclusion? While the cigarette-exposed teeth showed noticeable staining, the vapor-exposed teeth did not.4

So if you want to protect your pearly whites, don’t smoke any flower… Vape all the way to the dentist!

  1. CBD Became Officially LEGAL! (With Some Minor Hiccups)

The CBD world is still reeling in shock from the recent Farm Bill legislation and legality concerns that are coming down the pike from the FDA, so as it affects the CBD vaping industry it’s worth going into some detail here.

At the very beginning of 2019, the 2018 Farm bill was passed into law by Donald Trump which allows the commercial production and sale of hemp products, as long as they fall within the guidelines set forth.

Specifically, the hemp that is protected is industrial hemp which has a lower than 0.3% THC content. Since CBD with less than a 0.3% THC content is a hemp-derived product and falls within the limitations, it is now legal in all 50 states.5

Interestingly, because of the approval of Epidiolex as a CBD-based medicine, the FDA opposed the inclusion of CBD in any and all food-based products.

But for now, CBD vape remains safe and legal in all 50 states, a huge boon which foretells massive growth in the industry. Speaking of which…

  1. The CBD Vaping Industry Is Growing Like A Weed

You probably already know that the CBD industry has been growing like crazy, and that vaping has been consistently growing as well. Some analysts predict the vaping will become a $40 billion industry by 2023.6

In fact, CBD vape sales have been growing at an astonishing rate, up 105.5% during the first quarter of 2018,7 and that growth is expected to continue well into the future.

The overall CBD industry is expected to become a $22 billion industry by 2022, and vaping will undoubtedly be a huge part of that growth.8

The signs that CBD may even effect society itself on a grand scale are already showing up. Like for instance our next development…

  1. BIG Players From Other Industries Are Dipping Their Toes In The Water

Altria is up to something BIG that may effect the CBD vaping industry in the not-so-distant future. For those who don’t know, Altria is the giant company with deep pockets who owns Phillip Morris, the tobacco company that makes Marlboro cigarettes.

Their surprising 2018 New Year’s resolution was to give up cigarettes10 and it seems their plan includes getting into the vaping and CBD industries to do that.

Altria has very recently (as of April 2019) closed two HUGE deals that will position it to be a major player (if not THE major player) in the vape, CBD, and cannabis markets moving forward.

The first deal was a $12.8 billion investment for a 35% stake in JUUL, the e-cigarette company that currently represents 75% of the entire electronic cigarette industry. That deal closed in December of 2018.11

…And the second was a $1.8 billion investment in Canadian cannabis group Cronos, securing a 45% stake in the huge cannabis producer, with the option to become 55% owner in the future.12

What does this mean for CBD vaping? Well, like them or not -- Altria is probably going to a huge player on the scene in the coming years. And their decision to give up cigarettes isn’t too bad, right? So hopefully they can do some good things for vaping. We’ll see!

  1. Synthetic Cannabinoids: CBD – And Beyond!

Last but definitely not least, the CBD industry is seeing some major advances in synthetic cannabinoids recently with several new drugs poised to be approved by the FDA.

Synthetic CBD has been around for a little while; the really big news is that some of the lesser-known cannabinoids are being created in larger quantities and studied for the first time.

THC and CBD are only the most well-known cannabinoids at this time because they occur naturally in high concentrations in the hemp/cannabis plant.

But what most people aren’t aware of are that there are over 100 other cannabinoids like CBG and THCV in cannabis. Because they only naturally occur in minuscule amounts, synthetic production may be the only way we can ever study their effects or make them available for products in the future.13

Right now is an exciting new time for cannabinoid researchers and fans as these other cannabinoids are being invested in and moving along the journey towards marketable uses -- like vaping of course…

We can only hope one day we’ll have a whole selection of CBD, CBA, CBG, and many more to choose from!
